Gettysburg

We spent the 4th of July at Gettysburg, PA, watching Civil War re-enactments. On the way we spent a night in Amish country. We enjoyed a meal at an Amish restaurant, bought homemade rootbeer and lemonade from an Amish girl, browsed some shops and purchased another P. Buckley Moss print titled Celebrating Our Anniversary to add to our collection which is now up to two! I also found a lilac scented candle that I love!

Then on to Gettysburg. We stayed at a campground. The weather was great while we were there and we all enjoyed touring the different shops and seeing how they lived during that time.

The battle re-enactments were great to watch, too. Our favorite though would have to be the live cannon fire. They would have contests shooting the cannons at targets out in the battle field. It was amazing to watch a 47 lb. cannon ball soar through the air and land with surprising accuracy! The "bang" that came from firing it was impressive as well!

We all learned a lot especially Isaiah. At the end of the trip, he asked if the Americans won or lost that war. Charles answered "Yes." Isaiah couldn't figure out how we could do both. Charles said, " Isaiah! It was Americans fighting Americans!" "Ohhh."

This looks like a familiar vacation!!

We really enjoyed Gettysburg (of all the battle sites we traversed to)! Glad you all did too. However, we didn't get to take a real "tour" with a guide, because Dad always so graciously volunteered to give us tours for free! Ha.
