Tagged?

Apparently I have been tagged by my cousin to answer a few questions about myself. Because I am lame, I am going to answer the questions but I am not officially passing this on. I would be pleased, however, if each reader would post a response to the question at the end for my enjoyment. Thanks. :)

1. If you could learn to do anything, what would you learn and why?
I wish I knew more computer techie stuff, like Photoshop. There are so many neat programs that I wish I had and knew how to use.

2. If you could paint a picture of a landscape/something from your memory perfectly, what would you choose and why?
I think it would be scenes from Grandpa and Grandma Schoon's farm: the pond in the back pasture, the crick in the front pasture, the big tree with the sack swing, the house the way I knew it, the sandbox in the lilacs, Headlight. :)

3. What is one career/occupation that you would NOT want to do/ or would not be suited for you?
Accounting - I hate numbers.

4. What is something you keep extras of on hand at nearly all times in your home?
cans of cream of mushroom soup. You can whip up so many recipes if you have this on hand.

5. If you could BE a fictional character and live their story, who would it be?
Stuart Little. Rereading it right now with Isaiah. Stuart is such a confident, adventurous, devoted little fella. I love that.

6. What is the story that your family always tells about you?
Depends on who is talking. If it is my dad he tells everyone when I started walking I was so little I could walk under a table without bumping my head. My husband and kids tell a story from our vacation in Yellowstone. I thought I saw a bear and kind of freaked out and said, "Charles, There's a bear, a BIG bear." Turned out to be the rear end of a moose. The kids have always been amused and tend to exaggerate my excitement.

7. If you were a flavor of ice cream, what flavor would you be?
Chocolate with chocolate chunks.

8. What is your morning routine?
Roll out of bed between 7:00 and 7:15am. Wake up Isaiah. Get dressed. Go downstairs and make a sandwich for Hannah's lunch. Then depending on if I am subbing or not, pack my own lunch. Eat a granola bar and drink tea. Then I drive Isaiah to a bus stop 5 miles away every morning. The happiest part of my morning is that Nick, Maddie, and Hannah all get themselves up.

9. What were you doing the last time you had a really good laugh?
I was in Key West with two best friends, we laughed hard about something every day!!

10. If you could make all of one kind of thing go away, what would it be?
Mosquitoes

11. What is one thing you think all High School students should be taught before they graduate?
1. Why socialism doesn't work.
2. How to manage money, (ie. pay bills, balance a checkbook, earn a fixed income, save money) I love classrooms where the kids earn money for their work, pay rent for their desks, books, and have consequences when they can't pay their bills. At the end of each quarter or semester the teacher has an auction and the kids can buy stuff with what they have saved in their accounts. Practical life lessons.

Now it's your turn.

Tell me about your most favorite or prized possession (excluding family, photo albums. I am looking for actual specific items) and why it is special to you.

Chincoteague Island

Ever read the book 'Misty of Chincoteague' by American author Marguerite Henry? It is an oldie but a goodie. It was a favorite of Hannah's. When our kids have turned twelve we have taken them on a special trip - kind of a coming of age trip. When Hannah turned 12, I was full-throttle in grad school. Being the gracious child that she is, she patiently waited for me to finish school, then waited as we moved to Virginia. We finally made our mother-daughter trip in October to Chincoteague Island, home of the wild pony Misty. We had a great time, staying in a hotel, scouting the island where the wild ponies still live. The weather was cold and windy while we were there. We braved the cold weather and took a chartered pontoon around the island and saw some of the wild ponies up close.

The ponies live in this marshy, salty environment. It is worth looking up and researching. Very interesting story.

The wind blew so hard on the shore that small bits of shell blocked the wind keeping sand behind it making unique sand sculptures.

It was a great trip! Well worth the wait.
