Nick has eagerly been waiting for the day he could go out for Cross Country and it is finally here. Nick attends Northern Burlington Middle School. They offer Cross Country running in the fall for the 7
th and 8
th graders. There are about 20 boys on our team. Nick's first race was last Friday. There were 55 boys competing in this event. You can see some of them lined up at the start of his first meet. I love the look of
apprehension on his face!

The gun fired and they took off.

Here is a shot of Nick coming down the last straight-away. This race was 1.2 miles. They vary in lengths depending on the course.

Nick placed fourth in this event. One guy from another team and two 8
th graders from Northern finished ahead of him. He was very pleased after the race. They score the teams by adding up the places if the top five finishers from each team. The team with the fewest points wins the meet. Northern won this meet with 22 points!

The second meet wasn't much of a competition. There were only 5 other boys from two different schools that competed
against Northern. Nick passed 2 guys right near the finish to place third. This race was one mile. Nick finished with a time of 6:16.

His coach comes up with nicknames for all the kids. Nick is "
McZippy." Nick is having a blast. I'll keep you posted as the season progresses.

Way to go McZippy! What a perfect name and what a perfect sport for you. You look like a long distance runner! What a great job for your first couple of meets - I bet they're glad to have you on the team. Congratulations!

Nick-
So glad you're carrying on the cross country tradition. You are so much better than your mother and I ever were! So proud to be your aunt...
