Ever read the book 'Misty of Chincoteague' by American author Marguerite Henry? It is an oldie but a goodie. It was a favorite of Hannah's. When our kids have turned twelve we have taken them on a special trip - kind of a coming of age trip. When Hannah turned 12, I was full-throttle in grad school. Being the gracious child that she is, she patiently waited for me to finish school, then waited as we moved to Virginia. We finally made our mother-daughter trip in October to Chincoteague Island, home of the wild pony Misty. We had a great time, staying in a hotel, scouting the island where the wild ponies still live. The weather was cold and windy while we were there. We braved the cold weather and took a chartered pontoon around the island and saw some of the wild ponies up close.
The ponies live in this marshy, salty environment. It is worth looking up and researching. Very interesting story.
The wind blew so hard on the shore that small bits of shell blocked the wind keeping sand behind it making unique sand sculptures.
It was a great trip! Well worth the wait.
